How to Apply For a Record
There are two ways to apply. View both procedures below.
All applicants must submit a completed Record Fish Application Form, accompanying photographs, and a certified weight receipt (if applicable) to Idaho Fish and Game at this address:

1. How to Apply for a Catch and Release Record
All applicants must submit:
- A completed Record Fish Application Form, which includes the legal signature of one witness to the measurement and release.
- At least one photo of the fish with the angler and 2 or 3 of the measuring process.
- Fish must be released safely
- At least one photo of the fish directly next to a ruler/tape or an object of known verifiable length (such as a seasons and rules book)
- At least one photo of the angler with the fish
- At least one witness to the measurement and release
- Measure the total length from the tip of the snout to the end of the tail, with lobes of tail squeezed together.
- Sturgeon should be measured upside down along the belly from the snout to tip of the upper lobe of the tail fin
- Salmon, Steelhead and White Sturgeon must be measured and photographed in the water

2. How to Apply for a Certified Weight Record
All applicants must submit:
- A completed Record Fish Application Form, which includes the legal signature of one witness to the weight.
- A receipt from a certified scale documenting the weight.
- Verification of species and by Idaho Fish and Game.
- At least one photo of the fish.
- A receipt from the certified scale documenting the weight (typically be found at grocery stores or US Post Offices).
- Certified scales are now available to weigh fish at the following Fish and Game Offices: Coeur D’Alene, Lewiston, Boise HQ, and Pocatello.
- Verification of species and by IDFG staff from an IDFG office.
- At least on photo of the fish.
- At least one witness to the weight.
